Home to a successful and cultured couple, this New York City penthouse was my second project with them, having previously designed their ski home in Telluride. One of the benefits of working with a client for more than a decade is that you come to know one another’s tastes, making for a seamless and lovely process. The couple moved from a classic prewar 6, to this newly constructed 7,000 sq ft penthouse with 360 degree views of Manhattan.
Our directive was to incorporate the clients own collection of antiques; A mix of of furnishings ranging from early 20th century Chinese, to antique French and English pieces. The apartment is done in a mix of bold and muted tones to create an understated elegant quality.
My first order of business was to include a prominent place for the Grand piano; as the Client is an accomplished concert pianist and wanted a place for intimate performances. The open floor plan and natural lighting not only accommodated this beautifully, but also provided a gracious living room with sumptuous upholstery and dining area with floor to ceiling windows overlooking lower Manhattan.
"It has been a real pleasure working with Jovine Design. We have now done two homes with Andrea, a ski retreat and our New York home, and she had a very clear vision and understanding of what we wanted in each one. Her real ability is bringing out the individual style and personality of the homeowner. It’s been 17 years since Andrea designed our Telluride home and it remains as timeless and comfortable as always. We have virtually not changed one thing!
Andrea was willing to incorporate our years of collectibles and antique furnishings without a problem, and integrated it with new ideas to create a beautiful home that truly reflects our taste. Andrea encouraged us to use many of my mother’s wonderful artwork throughout the apartment adding that personal touch. The finished product is a home that is both comfortable and elegant. What can often be a stressful undertaking, Andrea made it a pleasurable and easy experience."
